The Hammerheads professional soccer team, a member of the Pro Select League, has won awards for marketing, organization and success on the field. The Hammers, founded in 1996, have been a playoff regular since their inception.

The Wilmington Sharks college summer baseball team is a member of the Coastal Plain League. The squad, composed of college players from across the country.

Wilmington Sea Dawgs

The team completed its first season in the American Basketball Association and qualified for the playoffs, and it will play in the Premier League next season. Its coach and general manager is Kevin Whitted, a former basketball standout at Laney High School. The team plays home games at Cape Fear Community College’s Schwartz Center.
